About Us

Welcome to Everglades Oncology Hematology, a medical practice which has had the privilege of serving our community for 20 + years.

Our facility operates under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Taub, MD, Dr. Eric Rishe, MD and Associates. At Everglades, our board-certified medical staff provide individualized, cutting-edge standard of care, evidence-based medicine referencing the most recent guidelines published by the American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). 
 
Our doctors and associates are accessible for consultation at our offices located in Pembroke Pines and Hollywood, Florida as well as in-patient at the Memorial Hospital System in Broward County, FL.
 
Our office has partnered with the Helping-Our-People-Everywhere (H.O.P.E.) Patient Concierge Organization as a way to optimize our individualized patient care at the national and international level.

Dr. Matthew Taub

MD

Dr. Matthew Taub completed his fellowship at New York Medical Collage in Hematology and Oncology after completing his internal medicne residency at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Taub is a Board Certified Medical Oncologist with almost 20 years of clinical exprience. He has treated both benign and malignant disorders in multiple states including New Jersey, New York, and Florida. Dr. Taub is very active in attending local hospital tumor boards and was attending professional regional meetings. Furthermore, Dr. Taub has been a member of the multidisciplinary committee at Memorial Hospital Miramar for several years and is a member of the American Society of clinical oncology (ASCO) and FLASCO as well.

Dr. Taub believes strongly in evidence based medicine and oncology. He tends to follow the guidelines of the National Cancer Committee Network when plauseble especially when making chemotherapy related decisions.

 Dr. Taub has had a proclivity towards helping people his entire life as he laments seeing people suffer. He believes that every patient is unique and unconditionally requires his concern even when faced with a potentially terminal diagnosis. Many of his wonderful patients consider him to be compassionate and altruistic.

 Dr Taub has an excellent staff, many of whom have remained with him for many years. The staff at his office clearly are an integral part to his team approch to excellent patient care at an affordable level.

 

Ana Calixto

Physician Assistant

Ana Calixto is a dedicated Physician Assistant specializing in hematology and oncology care. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida International University, where she developed a strong foundation in the biological sciences. Ana then pursued her Master of Medical Science degree through the joint Physician Assistant program between Miami Dade College and Saint Francis University.

Currently practicing in hematology oncology, Ana is committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate care to patients facing blood disorders and cancer diagnoses. Her educational background in biology, combined with her specialized training in physician assistant practice, enables her to deliver evidence-based care while supporting patients and their families through complex medical journeys.

Ana’s approach to patient care emphasizes clear communication, thorough assessment, and collaborative treatment planning to ensure each patient receives personalized, high-quality medical care.

Dr. Mark Lewis

MD

Dr. Mark Lewis is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, with specializations in hematology, oncology, palliative medicine, and internal medicine. He earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1985 and completed his residency at North Shore University Hospital of Forest Hills in 1988. Dr. Lewis’ extensive fellowship practice includes University of Di Torino in 1985 and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1991

Dr. Israel Wiznitzer

MD

Israel Wiznitzer MD completed the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL where he received his MD degree. He continued at Northwestern where he did his internal medicine residency. This was followed by 3 years of training in Hematology-Oncology at Yale University in New Haven, CT. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology

Dr. Wiznitzer practiced in the Chicago area prior to relocating to South Florida in 2002. He is a strong proponent of clinical trials and over his career enrolled hundreds of patients on new drug studies. He is a coauthor in several prestigious medical journals regarding the use of these new drugs in treating cancer as well as agents used in the supportive care of cancer patients.

Dr. Wiznitzer practices compassionate oncology and strives to have the patient participate in their overall care. He embraces National Comprehensive Cancer Network Guidelines in choosing cancer treatments and also uses the new tools that have become available in cancer medicine to help choose the most effective treatments available.

Daniel Mendes

Physician Assistant

Daniel Mendes is a board-certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with a Master’s degree in Medical Science. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fl and a Master of Medical Sciences (PA degree) from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL.

Daniel graduated PA school in 2024 once he completed extensive training in hematology-oncology at Memorial Hospital, where he developed his expertise in benign hematology and medical oncology.

Originally from Brazil, Daniel brings a unique blend of international perspective, athletic discipline, and compassionate care to his role as a Physician Assistant. Daniel’s background as a professional soccer player in Austria for three years has instilled in him the values of teamwork, perseverance, and mental resilience—qualities that serve him well in oncology care. Just as he once helped his teammates overcome challenges on the field, he now applies that same collaborative spirit and determination to help his patients fight their toughest battles.

His multicultural background allows him to connect with patients from diverse communities, bringing both linguistic skills and cultural sensitivity to his practice. Daniel has a strong passion for medicine but even more importantly for people. He is committed to delivering patient-centered care and leverages his passion for education to empower patients with knowledge, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and treatment outcomes.

Dr. Eric Rishe

MD

Eric Rishe, MD is a board certified Medical Oncologist and Hematologist.  He completed his medical training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York, New York where he served as chief fellow for 2 years in a row and then went on to become a clinical instructor at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center.

 He has served as first author on medical publications in the field of Liver diseases as well as Colo-Rectal cancer and successfully presented original research at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Gastroenterology Cancers Symposium.

 He is originally from Los Angeles, California and completed his undergraduate training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia as well as the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He received his medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel as part of a joint program with Albert Einstein Medical Center in New York.  He speaks fluent Spanish.

 

Dr. Rosa Altamirano

PA-C

Rosa Altamirano is a board certified Physician Assistant who originally obtained her license in 2011. She graduated from Miami Dade College where she excelled. Prior to becoming a certified physician’s assistant Ms. Altamirano studied at Prestigious Universidad Statal de Guayaquil School of Medicine and Universidad Central de Quito where she finished 5 years of Medical School eduction.

 She has worked effortlessly and diligently in the discipline of Oncology since 2006 as this is where her interests have always lied. PA-C Altamirano implemented a Cancer Patient’s support group in collaboration with Dr. Taub which the patients really appreciated. This Cancer support group provided monthly programs with a variety of subjects and a variety of guest speakers that helped educate newly diagnosed cancer patients, and their families. It help them to understand and cope with their disease, not always an easy task, but nevertheless a much needed one.

 Her passion for medicine as well as Hematology and Oncology, along with years of experience through diligent training and clinical involvement, have granted her the ability and tools for excellence in the diagnoses and treatment of cancer as well as hematological malignancies and disorders. She is now an active, integral and excellent part of our team here at Everglades Oncology and Hematology. Additionally, Rosa is trilingual as she is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.

 

Dr. Yilian Perez

MSHS / PA-C

Yilian Perez is a board-certified Physician Associate (PA-C) licensed in the state of Florida. Yilian attended Weill Cornell Graduate School Master of Science in Health Sciences for Physician Associates (MSHS PA) program graduating in the year of 2020. Yilian trained in world reowned hospitals such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City as well as in local hospitals all throughout the four boroughs of her favorite city. Prior to attending PA school, Yilian worked as a medical/surgical assistant at a Mohs Cancer Center where she learned the importance of skin protection, early detection and treatment management of all types of skin cancers. Yilian holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biochemistry from the University of Florida, making her a proud Florida Gator. Yilian’s humble yet determined beginnings began at Miami Dade College where she obtained her Associate of Science (AS) Degree in Chemistry with academic Honors.
